Description
What is a Sprain?
A sprain is an over-stretching injury of a ligament. Ligaments are placed throughout the body. They connect bones to bones and are tasked with increasing stability of joints. Because ligaments do not contract, this type of stability is passive.
Do I Need to See a Physician?
Generally, when in doubt, consult with your physician. For Acute Lateral Ankle Sprain, indicators that you should see your physician are:
- If you suspect fracture or serious injury
- Inability to take 4 consecutive steps (Right, Left, Right, Left). If unable to take 4 consecutive steps, visit your physician to rule out a fracture.
