How To: Get Up from a Chair/ Seat

It seems that the older we get, the more difficult it is to get up from a sitting position. Put many people on a low, soft couch and it will take them multiple tries to get up successfully.

Follow these 3 steps to give yourself the best chance for success on getting up on that first go round!

The 3 Tips for Getting Out of a Chair

1. Scoot to the Edge of Your Seat
2. Make Sure Your Feet are Underneath Your Knees
3. Make Sure Your Nose is Over Your Toes before You Try to Stand (Use Your Hands to Help You if You Need To).

As always, SAFETY FIRST! If you feel your balance is too poor to follow the tips and strategies on My Restorative Physical Therapy’s site, practice with your physical therapist instead.
